The Research Of Student’s Writing Skill In Descriptive Text At The Eight Grade Of SMP Santa Maria Monica - Bekasi

The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of students writing descriptive texts. The study is designed as a quantitative descriptive study and is conducted at SMP Santa Maria Monica Bekasi, located in Bekasi Area on July, 2019. The sample of this study consist of 40 students drawn of eighth grade students. In this investigation, researcher use writing tests to help. Students are asked to write descriptive texts based on the topics discussed. Students researcher analyzed 5 descriptive text components written by students, such as content, organization, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics. To assess students' abilities, researcher was assisted by three evaluators. The results of the analysis show that, in the content of the writing, the average value of students is 53.72 and can be classified in the mediocre category. In writing organizations, the average grade of students is 50.47 and can be classified in mediocre classes. In writing grammar, the average value of students is 53.31 and can be classified as mediocre. In vocabulary, the average value of students is 52.87 and can be categorized poorly. In mechanics, the average value of students is 52.72 and can be classified as mediocre. Based on these findings, the researcher found that the average score of students writing descriptive texts was 51.87, which meant that their ability to write descriptive texts could be classified as poor.
